The cherry blossom lasts only about ten days and briefly immerses the cities in a sea of colors of pink and white flowers. Because of its splendor and short life, it is a symbol of beauty, fragility and departure in Japan. The Japanese celebrate the cherry blossom with their family under the cherry trees. This sociable Japanese festival is called Hanami. In Bad Langensalza too, the festival has been a fixed date on the calendar since 2004 and is celebrated every year in April. On this occasion, two first graders will be crowned Cherry Sakura and Samurai. They represent Bad Langensalza and the Japanese Garden at various festivals for one year.
