AUGUSTIN MONASTERY AND MONASTERY GARDEN
In the monastery building, in the cloister and on the site of the former monastery garden, you will learn a lot of interesting and exciting things about the history of the Augustinian Hermitage and the monks from Salzaha living here (as the city was then called). The consequences of Luther's idea of reform during the time of the iconoclasts and the peasant uprising are clearly depicted on the historic monastery site. On this tour you will also learn what has become of the monastery building with its monastery garden. Bad Lagensalza is today a beautifully renovated spa, rose and garden town with 10 themed gardens. In 2011 the city won the gold medal in the European competition “Entente Florale Europe” for the most beautiful flower city in Europe.

MARTIN LUTHER AND HIS MATTERS
In the 15th / 16th Century in Germany. The social grievances in town and country became more and more obvious and the ordinary people could hardly bear the burden. The church, with its ornate church representatives and the indulgence trade, was also to blame for this misery to a considerable extent. Martin Luther wanted to reform the Papal Church at the beginning of the 16th century and denounced the rampant trade in indulgences. That didn't just bring him friends. Especially the church dignitaries, but also political sovereigns and dukes condemned and persecuted him. In the local Thuringian area - then Saxon territory - with Duke George the Bearded and in the neighboring region with Cardinal Albrecht of Brandenburg and Mainz there were two very influential and important opponents of Luther. This tour will show you why and what they did to fight the reformer Martin Luther!
